I Love New York

The I Love New York site for New York State Tourism lists attractions, events and accommodations. There are links to many tourist destinations by region and a category for the New York State canals.

The New York State Archives

The New York State Archives is the official repository of New York State Government records with legal or historic value. The web site includes an online catalog, news, search of the statewide catalog of archival/historical collections, and a virtual exhibit of examples from the archives.

New York State Council of the Arts

Cultural development is the mission of the New York State Council of the Arts which it achieves through programs such as Arts in Erducation, the Museum Program, and Decentralization Grants. It contracts with nonprofit arts and cultural organizations for services to New York residents. The web site provides information on grants, partnership projects and advisory support.

The New York State Museum

The New York State Museum in Albany is open daily except for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day. Admission is free. The Museum owns 8 million artifacts representing New York’s natural and human heritage and mounts both temporary and permanent exhibits drawing on its research and collections.

The Museum also operates a Carousel, Museum Cafe, museum shop and Discovery Place for children. The Museum is fully accessible. The museum’s website offers a survey of its collections by category, research notes, updates on projects, a list of
publications, information on exhibits and programs, and a calendar.

The Museum Chartering Program of the New York State Museum

The Museum Chartering Program of the New York State Museum provides information and assistance for chartered and incorporated museums, historical societies and cultural agencies. The office prepares chartering recommendations for action by the State Education Department and the Board of Regents. The office also distributes and compiles annual report forms; hosts Trustee Workshops; provides advice on professional practices, collections management, deaccessioning, ethics
and financial accountability; and looks into complaints about ethical misconduct and similar serious issues. The Museum Chartering website provides information on chartering and Regents regulations.

The New York State Office of Parks and Historic Preservation

The New York State Office of Parks and Historic Preservation is the agency that operates the state parks, historic sites and heritage areas of New York State. It administers funds for federal historic preservation and park programs and provides technical preservation guidance. The agency also sponsors programs and grants and produces the Preservationist.
